(Life today has a wave-like rhythm) Homage to Machado, 1957
Oil on board, 20 x 26 3/8 in. (51 x 67 cm.)
Words inserted in a composition appear often in Gurvich's work; for him
they were a tool to go beyond painting, when color, shapes, and lines were not enough
to express a feeling or evoke a place... The phrase "Life today has a
wave-like rhythm" is a line from Antonio Machado, the great Spanish writer, whose
poetic imagery Gurvich loved. |
